STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE
How to get your domain
A domain is the name of your website on the internet, for example mybakery.com. It works like a home address: people type it to find you.
You do not buy a domain forever. You pay for one year and then renew it every year. If you do not renew it, you lose it and someone else can take it.

Already have an account with another registrar, like Namecheap or DonWeb? You can use it: the steps are similar.
Before you start, have ready
- An email address you check every day and a credit or debit card.
- Two or three name ideas: short, with no hyphens or accents, and close to your business name.
GoDaddy · .com .net .org
≈ 10 min
.com .net .orgGoDaddy is a company that sells domains to people in any country. It does not ask for documents: an email address and a credit or debit card are enough. Buying takes about 10 minutes.
What you need
- An email address.
- A credit or debit card that works for online purchases.

After you buy
- The domain is active within a few minutes.
- Look at the renewal price. The first year is often cheap and the following years cost more.
- Automatic renewal is turned on: GoDaddy charges your card every year. If you do not want that, you can turn it off in your account.
Want a domain from your country?
If you want your country's own domain, you can register it on its official registry. The steps are similar on every site: search for the name, create an account, and pay.

United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia
Country domains like .us, .ca, .co.uk, .es, .de, or .com.au are sold through regular registrars, such as GoDaddy or Namecheap. The steps are the same as for a .com.
Some countries ask you to live there or have a local business. For example, Argentina asks for a CUIT or CUIL number, and Brazil for a CPF or CNPJ. If you do not meet that requirement, or you want to keep it simple, a .com works from anywhere in the world.
